Hunger for Art and Culture

"Hunger auf Kunst und Kultur" ("Hunger for Art and Culture"), created 2003 by the Vienna Schauspielhaus in co-operation with the "Armutskonferenz", should be understood as an initiative that focuses on the discourse about the significance and accessibility of culture for all people.

In 2006 the project "Hunger auf Kunst und Kultur" was created in Graz, too. With a so-called "Kulturpass" all people who would like to participate in cultural activities (concerts, theatre performances, movies or museums), but who can not afford to, can benefit from this initiative: people who receive social welfare or a minimal retirement pensions, unemployed persons, refugees ...

The distribution of the "Kulturpass" is facilitated by the Graz organisation culture unlimited and many other charitable organisations. Every cultural institution participating in "Hunger auf Kunst und Kultur" grants free entrance to "Kulturpass" holders. Each of these institutions fund these tickets through the donations of individuals, organizations or sponsorship efforts. Steirische Kulturveranstaltungen GmbH. is participating in "Hunger auf Kunst und Kultur" with its projects styriarte, PSALM, recreation, Serenata and Meerschein Matineen.
