Philipp Harnoncourt
Philipp Harnoncourt works at the theatre in various areas: He is directing plays and opera productions, designing set and light concepts, as technical director he organised the ImPulsTanz festival in Vienna, whe was productions manager at the Vienna Schauspielhaus, and he is himself writing plays ("Sei Partisan!", debut performance 1987 in Wien; "Orfeus und Eurydike auf Alpha Centauri", debut performance 1996 in Klagenfurt, "Ein Tag in Khaleds Garten", 1999, and "Der Blaue Ochs", 2003/04).
For theatre, dance and opera productions he created the lighting, e.g.: "Persephone" (Art Carnuntum 1996), "Wiener Blut" (Ballet of the Vienna State Opera 1996) or "Hautnah" by Patrick Marber (Volkstheater 1998). He was responsible for set and light in following productions: "The Gypsy Baron" (Wiener Konzerthaus 1996), "in the Cage" and "FLOWer" by Karl Heinz Essl (Kunsthalle Krems, 1999 & 2000), and "Sacre Material" (ImPulsTanz 2000 & 2001), "Adebar / Kubelka" (Tanzquartier & Viennale 10/03) and "Über Tiere" by Elfriede Jelinek (Theater am Neumarkt Zurich).
From 1993 to 2002 Philipp Harnoncourt organised guest performances and own productions in Wiener Burgtheater, Wiener Staatsoper, Volkstheater, Museumsquartier, and man yother venues as technical director of the ImPulsTanz festival. In the opera season 2000/2001 he was production manager at the Vienna Schauspielhaus under Hans Gratzer.
Since the middle of the nineties he has been working more and more as director: "A Midsummer Night's Dream“ (styriarte 1996, with Nikolaus Harnoncourt), "Neger" (Vienna Schauspielhaus 2001), "Piramo e Tisbe" (Vienna Schauspielhaus 2001 and styriarte 2002), "Pagliacci" by R. Leoncavallo (National Opera Kiev 2002), "Das Buch von den hängenden Gärten" by Arnold Schönberg (Austrian Cultural Forum, New York 2002), "Pygmalion" by George Bernhard Shaw (Theater Absolut 2005, Graz), "Der Bettelstudent" by Carl Millöcker (Tirol Landestheater 2005), "Die Schuldigkeit des Ersten Gebots" by W. A. Mozart (Theater an der Wien / Osterklang 2006, with Nikolaus Harnoncourt), Mozart's "The Magic Flute" (Opernfestspiele Heidenheim 2006), "Hoffmanns Erzählungen" by Jacques Offenbach (Ostseespiele Stralsund 2007) and Mozart's "The Abduction from the Seraglio" (Schloss Kirchstetten 2007).
In December 2007 Philipp Harnoncourt directs the Humperdinck opera "Hansel und Gretel" in Rosemheim, in March 2008 "Alcione" by Marin Marais in Vienna Odeon.
