Montserrat Figueras

Sopran

Born in Barcelona, Montserrat Figueras studied voice and play. In 1968 she married Jordi Savall and went with him to Basel, where she deepened her studies at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis, with Kurt Widmer, and with Eva Krasznei.

From the beginning she concentrated on old singing techniques which she freed from any kind of "post romanticism". Their brilliance became already apparent in Figueras' first recording ("El Barocco Español").

She worked together not only with her husband Jordi Savall, and harpsichordist Ton Koopman - both had accompanied her at the above-named recording -, but also with lute master Hopkinson Smith and with the ensemble Hespèrion XXI, which she had founded together with Jordi Savall. Today the Catalan artist is an important member of the Capella Reial de Catalunya, too.

Montserrat Figueras has been sharing her profound knowledge at numerous master classes and has been performing all over Europe and the USA.
