Julia Kleiter
The German soprano Julia Kleiter started her international career in 2004 with concert performances of Richard Strauss' Daphne (1. Magd) in Cologne conducted by Semyon Bychkov. In June 2004 she made her highly acclaimed debut at the Opéra Bastille in Paris as Pamina in Bob Wilson's production of Die Zauberflöte conducted by Jiri Kout.
In 2005 she sang more Daphne concerts in Canary Island (with CD recording) as well as in New York and Washington D.C. and sang again Pamina at the Opéra Bastille in Paris in a new production conducted by Marc Minkowski. She was Papagena in a new production of Die Zauberflöte staged by Daniele Abbado and conducted by Claudio Abbado in Reggio nell'Emilia, Modena and at the Baden-Baden festival. In June she made her debut at the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino in the part of Xenia in a new production of Boris Godunov conducted by Semyon Bychkov, in July she took over Pamina at the Teatro Real in Madrid conducted by Marc Minkowski.
Julia Kleiter started the 2005/2006 season as Giunia in a new production of Johann Christian Bach's Lucio Silla conducted by Theodor Guschlbauer and took over once again Papagena with Claudio and Daniele Abbado in Modena (with CD recording).
In 2006 she sang her first Serpetta (La Finta Giardiniera) under Nikolaus Harnoncourt in Zurich 2006, her first Susanna (Le Nozze di Figaro) in Verona and in Reggio Emilia followed. At the Teatro La Fenice in Venice she debuted as Celia (Lucio Silla) under Tamas Netopil (director: Jürgen Flimm). In the same production she performed at the Salzburg Festival where she sang Betulia liberata under Christoph Poppen as well.
In 2007 followed Pamina under Harnoncourt in Zurich, Sophie (Der Rosenkavalier), in Zurich, too, Zdenka (Arabella) under Franz Welser-Möst, and in Florenz Amor (Orfeo ed Euridice) under Ricardo Muti.
As a concert singer she has performed in Stockholm, Munich, Stuttgart, Los Angeles (with Helmut Rilling), Ferrara (Claudio Abbado), … Among her concerts 2005: Handel's "Dixit Dominus" and "Funeral Anthem for Queen Caroline" in Munich, 2006 "Vesperae solennes de confessore" in Paris, Toulouse and at the Salzburg Festival conducted by Riccardo Muti, Schumann's "Manfred" with Claudio Abbado in Berlin, Mozarts "Betulia liberata" at the Salzburg Festival conducted by Christoph Poppen, Bach cantatas at the styriarte Graz as well as Mozart and Händel concerts in a Japan tour – both projects with Nikolaus Harnoncourt, and Mozart's "Requiem" in São Paulo conducted by John Neschling. 2007 she sang Wolf’s "Italienisches Liederbuch" together with Christoph Prégardien in Belgium and Germany.
Julia Kleiter has recorded the "Requiem" by Mozart and - for DGG - Papagena conducted by Claudio Abbado.
Born in Germany, in Limburg, Julia Kleiter studied with William Workmann in Hamburg and with Klesie Kelly-Moog in Cologne.
